Voice
I discovered U2 at the age of 9. Their music became soon my
“Refugee”.
During those years, I often felt the need to protect me from the
world
and I used to take some comfort in their
songs that was always able to
express the reason of my uneasiness.
The first album I listened to was The
Joshua Tree. From that very
moment something changed inside me.
I bought the whole past discography and every single album published
after then.
I tripped deeply in their music, also in the most particular albums
like for example “Original Soundtrack” or in
milestone
such as Achtung Baby and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.
Thanks to this music, I found the strength
to smile at my life.
“Like a desert needs rain, like a town needs a name, I need
U2...”
And today, thanks to No
Line I have the luck to cultivate my biggest
passion and share
it with all the fans of Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry.
Guitar
I was born 32 years ago in Crotone, the city where also artists such as
Rino Gaetano and Sergio Cammariere and the mathematician Pitagora were
born. I start loving
music at the age
of 8: I remember that after a concert
of the legendary Melodica Bontempi, I decided to attend a class to
learn playing the piano.
However, I passed soon to the guitar... during a concert in the square
of my city I realized that the piano would not have been my instrument.
While the boy with long black hair was shaking an amazing white Charvel
I thought: “one day I will play that instrument
too...”
And that is how my passion
for guitar began.
I formed my first rock band at the age of 13, in the early 90's. We
played songs of Litfiba, Guns 'n' Roses, Bon Jovi and of other rock
artists. At the age of 15, I formed a tribute band to Gun 'n' Roses and
I began
appreciating Slash, trying to imitate his style and his way of
approaching music.
Some years passed and, thanks to a friend of mine, I had the chance to
listen to
Edge's guitar: poetry to
my ears!
So I fell in love with the most famous band in the world:
“the U2”.
When I was 18 I left my city (during those years in Crotone there were
not many
job and musical opportunities) so I arrived in the big Milan. I began
playing in a rock band until I joined a tribute band to U2,
driven by my passion for U2.
Soon having the same
equipment as the one owned by Edge became my first
goal. The legendary Ampli Vox AC30CC2X, the guitars, the
sound effects, the
plectrums took soon part of my collection. The aim was get as near as
possible to one of the most eclectic guitar player ever.
I share at 360° my passion for U2 and I bring
throughout Italy their distinctive
and unmistakable sound.
Bass
I was born in the far 1964 (unfortunately I am the one who raise the average age
of the band).
I first get in touch with music as, at the age of 9, I received a toy, a Bontempi mouth
organ, and a classical guitar when I was 11. At 13 the
turning point: I bought
my first vinyl 33, entitled Collage by the legendary group
“Le Orme”. I fell in
love with the bass guitar
played by a mythical Aldo Tagliapietra.
Thanks to my savings and to the contribution of granny Genoveffa, I
bought my first bass.
Holding it in my hands seemed strange to me: it was so heavy due to the
long
handle made of solid wood. The strings were thick and with no
amplification,
you can't hear them even if you beat them strongly, but as soon as you
turn on
the amplifier a deep vibration shake you inside your stomach.
At 20, after a lot of training and blisters on my left hand to learn my
favourite
songs of the time (I had blisters also on my right hand but for other
reasons...) I listened to an incredible voice, belonging to a boy who
“can't believe
the
news today...”. He sang with other three boys,
the U2. The sound, coming out so
deep from the bass of a certain Adam Clayton began fascinating me more
and
more... Today, after so many years, I can affirm that U2 have
represented the
soundtrack of my life and I hope they will continue so for
long time!
I had different experiences with several groups until one day, a certain
Lukas, a boy
well prepared and precise in the choice of sounds, which had to be as
similar
as possible to the Edge's sounds, introduced me to other 2 fans of U2
like me.
Drums
It was an afternoon in summer
1993 as a friend of mine turned on the radio and said to
me: “Listen to
this...”
The Edge's guitar accompanied a wonderful Bono shouting at the whole
world “If I could stay.. then the night would give you
up”.
Immediately something began “burning”
inside me.
In a short time I formed my first U2 band and in 1997 I attended the
first Italian contest called “Volevano essere gli
U2”.
The prize, a ticket to Dublin, was deservedly won by Playstation, in my
opinion the best tribute band to U2 ever whose leader was the great
Gianni Favero. Anyway, I came back home satisfied and enthusiastic.
During the following years, I continued studying and appreciating more
and more the four Irish both from a musical
and an artistic point of
view.
One of my biggest wish has always been meeting them. One day, a friend
of mine who used to work as a cooker in the restaurant
“Europa 92” in Modena phoned me and said me:
“Would you like to have a dinner here? Tomorrow the artists
will play at Pavarotti International and Big Luciano has invited them
here in his restaurant”. I reached Modena in the blink of an eye. I
will never forget when Bono
autographed the cover of my album “The Joshua
Tree”. I will keep this moment in my heart forever.
After many years of training and efforts, I finally succeed in creating
a tribute project which is the expression of my great passion called
U2.
